Tiffany Cat

The Tiffany Cat enjoys an ever-growing admiration around the globe, because of its prodigious appearance and gentle disposition. This breed originated in 1967, and breeders have managed to build a strong and stable genetic makeup. This is one of the healthiest feline breeds in the world. There is one more reason why these cats are so popular, and that is minimal care requirements. Chantilly Tiffany Cats have a silky and long coat, which has no undercoat and therefore it is not prone to mating. These cats require moderate but regular grooming. They shed very little, so they pose little trouble for allergic people.

The coat of the Tiffany Cat comes in the following colors: fawn, blue, lilac, cinnamon and chocolate; both solid and tabby color patterns are permissible. White is not allowed, so even a small white spot is a disqualification. Chantilly Tiffany Cats have oval golden-yellow-amber eyes. The ears are wide at the base and round at the tips. The long hair forms a ruff around the neck. The tail is plumed, and there are hairy furnishings on the ears and “petticoats” on the hind legs. These traits make the cat look particularly exotic. The cat’s semi-foreign appearance has generated a misconception that these cats have a Burmese ancestry. In fact, this breed is in no way related to the Burmese Cat.

Tiffany Cats have a sweet and loving personality. They are apt to bond with people for the rest of their lives, and they tend to pick out a particular person as their most beloved master. Tiffany Cats can be reserved with strangers, but they can get along with other pets in the house. They thrive on human attention and interaction, and they are intolerant of loneliness. Like most dogs, these cats can develop a separation anxiety, which can make them extremely vocal and destructive.

The Tiffany Cat originated in 1967, when Ms Robinson picked up two chocolate cats (a male and a female), probably descending from the same parents but from different litters. Two years later, the pair produced a litter of 6 kittens, which looked very similar and admired her so much that she felt obliged to take up a breeding project. Those would-be Tiffanys were first referred to as “foreign longhairs”. It took more than a decade for the breed to gain unshakeable recognition, and there were times when the ACA nullified its status in the 1970s, so the breed was in danger of total oblivion. American and Canadian breeders inspired new life in it in the late 1980s. Since then, the Tiffany Cat enjoys enviable popularity among cat lovers in different parts of the world.
